Each time, the answer was the same; there was no money and the governement didn’t care to deal with it.

When I see an old person in Serbia, I sometimes see in their eyes the impact of WW2, of the bombing of 1999, the pain they have due to physical problems not being taken care of, the aberration of their ridiculously little retirement pension, the fear they have of their grand children not finding any job and working on less than a minimal pay and the burden of the eight set of stairs that they have to climb every day to their small appartement because there is no money for an elevator and the governement doesn’t care. The reason why some people in less well-off Eastern European countries look depressed is because they have daily problems to deal with that we have no clue about. There will be no proper talking about the future until the past is taken care of and left behind. When the people get what they deserve and need, then we will see their faces light up again.
